Contra Costa County is home to over one million residents, and just over 500,000 of them live in Central Contra Costa County. This area is home to people from all walks of life who are ready and willing to help their community when the need arises. That is part of what makes Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa so incredibly grateful to be here. We have the privilege of supporting and working for over 1,100 residents. We love the clients we get to know and have the opportunity to help. Our goal is to be the organization that every member of our community can turn to when they need any type of help or support with food insecurity or aging resources.

While many of the communities within Central Contra Costa County have higher costs of living than the average across the United States, each of them caters to a senior population. This population is sometimes overlooked regarding the resources they need to live a long, healthy life. That is what we are here to help with. Turn to Meals on Wheels if you or anyone in your community is struggling with food insecurity. We will do everything we can to help. On average we provide over 243,000 meals each year in this area.

Area Attractions

Mount Diablo is a mountain located in Contra Costa County, California. It is one of the tallest peaks in the eastern United States, at over 3,849 feet above sea level.

The Concord fault forms the mountain, which runs through the center of Contra Costa County. It is a popular hiking and camping destination because it has numerous trails and campsites.

The mountainous area is known for its scenic beauty and breathtaking views of the surrounding areas. Mount Diablo is a great place to visit with its vast array of hiking trails and beautiful trees if you’re looking for a natural landscape experience.

There are two main trails that visitors can choose from when visiting Mount Diablo. The first is the Golden Gate Ridge Trail, which connects to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The second is the Devil’s Staircase Trail, which begins at the top of Mount Diablo and ends at Panoramic Highway in Walnut Creek. There are also many other roads on Mount Diablo that visitors can explore on their own if they want to stay on their toes!

One of the most famous views of Mount Diablo is from McWay Falls. This impressive waterfall drops about 80 feet down into a deep canyon carved by rushing water.

The trail to McWay Falls also passes through a redwood forest that is full of old-growth trees. The scenery is stunning and a must-see for anyone that wants to visit the area.

They also provide the visitor services that our clients need to gain access to resources and to ensure everyone is getting enough to eat.

Clayton, California

Claytonville is the original name of Clayton, California, which was founded back in 1857. It is just under four square miles in size and has a population that is approaching 15,000 residents. This community is near enough to the San Francisco Bay area that many residents go there for the sports and nightlife. Since its incorporation in 1964, one of the tenets of the residents in this small town is volunteerism. The residents often have events to help those in need and to remain strong as a community.

Moraga, California

The city of Moraga, California, is all about living and learning. Moraga is home to 15 different schools between the preschool and high school levels, plus it is the home of St. Mary’s College of California. The city has a population of approximately 20,000, with just over 20% of the population being retirees. It is also just shy of 10 square miles. Moraga was formally incorporated in 1974. The visitors and residents all tend to enjoy some of the amazing attractions Moraga has to offer, such as the popular farmer’s market and the Redwood Trail.

Pleasant Hill, California

Pleasant Hill was officially incorporated in November 1961. Today, the city is home to 35,000 residents. The city is just over seven square miles, all along the San Francisco Bay. On Wednesday evenings during the summer, there are often concerts and food trucks along the lake for both residents and visitors to enjoy. Pleasant Hill is among the most expensive suburbs to live in within California. It has a fantastic library system and is home to John F. Kennedy University.

Walnut Creek, California

Walnut Creek is 20 square miles of a combination of historic scenery and modern conveniences. Thanks to the myriad of highway connections within its borders, it is known as a hub to each of the neighboring communities, including Oakland, Alamo, Clayton, Concord, Lafayette, and Pleasant Hill. There are more than 70,000 residents that call the affluent community of Walnut Creek home. The residents and visitors can maneuver hiking trails, parks, horse trails, and bike lanes all around the city, plus it has access to a wide variety of public transportation options.
